The Russell, and other stock indices, have been in a retrace move since November 2021. High inflation and fears of a predicted recession are the driving force of the current downside. Is now the time to re-enter equities? Is the retrace move coming to the end? Have the markets found a bottom? Here are my thoughts... Fundamental Analysis Inflation is coming down and seems much more under control. High inflation and rate hikes are no longer a shock to the markets but have become a norm. Obviously, inflation is still high but it does look like it has peaked. The markets are expecting further minor rate hikes to continue to bring inflation down to a more healthy rate. Last weeks US non-manufacturing PMI figure suggests that the US could be heading into the expected recession - what has been predicted by many over the last 6 months or so could be starting to crystallise. A recession is not a good thing, but recession could be good for the equity markets, as economies will be acting as most analysts and traders have been expecting, which brings some sense and stability to the markets. Technical Analysis The retrace move recently found support around a key weekly horizontal level and around the 50.0% Fibonacci retrace level. On lower time-frames, price has closed above a consolidation area. I will mark all on a chart for you. Summary So, going back to my original question... 'Is now the time to buy global stock indices', my answer is 'I don't know', as nothing is certain within the financial trading, no trades or analysis is guaranteed. Saying this though, I went long last Friday based on the analysis in this post. If price does swing lower, my next areas of interest are around 1650 and around the weekly 61.8& Fib level. Things to beware of are; inflation starting to climb again, a deeper recession than expected. Either of these things (hopefully not both of them!) could bring stock markets lower.

Fundamentals drive the markets... Here is what we could see happen in 2023... Inflation reversal - possible downside for the US Dollar. Rising inflation and inflation fears drove the USD higher in 2022. Now that inflation is coming down and is more under control, we could see USD downside throughout 2023. Global recession trades - this is already priced in, as the recession has been so well broadcast over the last few months. What isn't priced in is if the recession doesn't happen or is much deeper than expected. Look out for opportunities on CHF and USD pairs - CHF and USD strength if the recession is worse than expected. The opposite if no recession crystallises in 2023 and if no recessions are expected in 2024. Russia-Ukraine war escalation/de-escalation trades - hopefully, we see an end to this war. Either way, we could see EUR and USD pairs impacted. USD strength and EUR weakness, if there is escalation. The opposite if the war ends. GBP recovery trades(?) - sterling is undervalued (it is looking cheap). Possible GBP upside throughout 2023, as stability returns to the UK. GBPCHF, GBPJPY and GBPUSD could provide strong upside opportunities, depending on the outcome of points 1 and 2 of this post. Obviously, anything could happen - this is the current outlook as of 5th January 2023, things could look very different in a month! Wishing you all the best for 2023!

This is my high risk, long term carry trade for 2023 (opened in 2022, looking to add to my position further). The swap rate is very attractive - to provide some insight, I have received a 3% account increase since opening my first long position in 2022, through daily interest receivables. The Fundamentals... Turkey has potential. Exports are climbing. The country needs more stability and greater global confidence - Turkey is greatly lacking both. I believe that the currency is so heavily short, that any sign of monetary policy change could cause the Lira to rocket. Potentially creating some large volatile upside moves. With the possibility of a global recession, the Lira could also see buying momentum, as emerging markets often perform well during times of international recession. Current Technical Reasons... Price is nearing all-time lows and daily horizontal support. TRYJPY is also testing bearish channel support area . Don't get me wrong, the Lira could fall much further - it has been in extreme decline for around 15 years! This is considered a high risk trade.

I believe I may have slowly got too relaxed with what I consider support and resistance worth placing an order below/above. For 2023, I will be more strict. Good news for China! It seems that everything China related has been sold to lows in 2022, so I am really looking to buy anything China related (CNY, ETFs, Indices, Stocks). The CNY Bond ETF has closed above it's 1 hour range... If China continues to open, which it is likely to, we could see a bullish reversal or at least a strong retrace of the 2022 downside.

USD is down! Inflation was lower than expected yesterday and it seems that the double-digit inflation drive may be over... This means less USD buying and potentially a large retrace move of the recent USD gains... Below are my charts... I am just a little concerned that the USD could continue to fall and not reach my technical levels, meaning a missed selling opportunity

US inflation (CPI) this Thursday 10/11. My fundamental analysis suggests that inflation should be as forecast or lower, which should bring USD weakness... Looking for a retrace move on USD pairs, so I can short the Dollar... Even if CPI is higher than expected, I am starting to think that USD upside is exhausted

2. You can view historic trades by going to the posts under 'Trades'.
My historical trades are categorised by strategy.
To be notified by email when a trade is posted, please subscribe to each trading strategy account category individually.
3. I strongly suggest you take my Ultimate Forex Course.(https://www.actualforextrading.com/the-ultimate-forex-course) You will understand my trading strategies much better and your trading room subscription will be much cheaper!
4. I will not teach my trading strategies, as this is covered in my course. I am obviously happy to clarify trades and answer questions, though.
